This zine is a personal exploration of identity and cultural formation. Using twelve photo albums collected by my mother, I trace her 30-year journey across three cities, revealing a complex narrative shaped by intersecting cultural experiences. As a family member, I use self-publishing to tell a story of evolving identity—from early confusion to ultimately embracing and blending her hometown roots, the culture of her adopted city, and the influence of Hong Kong’s pop culture. All photos come from my mother’s personal archive, preserving the authenticity and nostalgia of analog film. I experimented with photo transfer techniques to infuse the images with handmade textures and tangible emotional weight. Together with my mother, I selected key hometown elements—dialects, food, rituals—to be transferred onto paper using gelatin printing. The book is narrated from her first-person perspective, forming a visual storyline interspersed with inserts that highlight pivotal cultural memories, including the Mid-Autumn Moon Worship tradition and the impact of 90s Hong Kong fashion, films, and celebrity culture.
